Struggles that happen when you move out on your own

Exciting news! I have made the decision that starting from September, this year, a new chapter of my life will begin.
I am moving out and will live in the city where my university is located, Groningen. Currently, I’m still living with my parents, which isn’t the actual worst thing for a 20-year-old, but what I actually hate is that have to take public transport to my university every day.  And it takes TWO HOURS to get there, so that’s four hours per day in total. I’ve literally spend more time in a train than in any other vehicle.  And public transport in the Netherlands is just horrible, escpecially the weird and creepy people you encounter (but that’s a story/rant for another time).  It gives you good stories to tell, though. Anyway, I’m wandering off my point.

So at this moment, 90% of my life is spent searching for a decent room in Groningen. I still haven’t succeeded so that’s annoying, but I will have to keep searching and try to be strong. Anyway, I just wanted to share a few struggles of searching for rooms that  I’ve experienced that I want to talk/rant about with you guys. Here you goooo:

  • The amount of competition you have. Seriously, when I just started looking, it was like the entire population of France and Germany spontaneously decided they wanted to get a room, as well.  At everything I’ve responded to, I compete with at least 50 other people. R.I.P. chances of getting a room.
  • Room viewings. They’re just so awkward. And I’m awkard. Awkward + awkward does NOT, I repeat NOT, equal fun. You’re basically just two strangers talking about how spacious the rooms looks and how luxurious it is that the coffee machine is included.
  • Lying to your (potential) roommates: Making a mental note to yourself about an hour before the viewing: “You absolutely love cleaning, are a very sociable and quiet person that gets along with almost everyone.” And then proceeding to be a stone cold liar as you tell them this.
  • Buying furniture and rebuilding the room:  do you have any idea how long it takes to get through the IKEA?

Anyways, I’m very excited to finally move on my own!  It means I’ll be busy the coming months, as I also will be working extra to afford my room, but I’ll try to post at least once or twice a week!

ALSO MINI SHOUT-OUT TO MY 25 FOLLOWERS I HAVE SOMEHOW OBTAINED ALONG THE WAY, I LOVE YOU ALL ❤️ THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY
